Basil and brie love each other. Trust me. And they’ll mingle with JUST about any tasty condiment from gourmet mustards to local jams and sun dried tomatoes. This is THE appetizer to make when you want to offer something more unique than another cheese board, but you also want time to shower before the guest arrive. Ya feel me?!
New Buffalo Basil-Wrapped Goat Milk Brie Cheese
Creamy dreamy brie cheese is wrapped in herbaceous basil leaves and stuffed with anything you're craving from blueberry jam and pistachios to sun dried tomatoes with fig balsamic glaze! These apps are easy, beautiful and #YUMFEST
Ingredients
- 1 61/2-ounce wheel goat milk Brie cheese (Often locally available at Sawyer Garden Center. In a pinch, use cow or sheep milk Brie.)
- 1 3-ounce package fresh basil
- Jam
- Nuts
- Honey
- Balsamic glaze
- Sun-dried tomatoes
Instructions
Prep the Cheese and Basil
-
Remove the Brie wheel from the refrigerator and use a sharp knife to slice the wheel into 1/3-inch-thick strips. Cut any longer strips in half so they are about 2 inches in length. Remove any stems from the basil leaves.
Put These Babies Together!
-
To assemble, place 1 slice of the Brie horizontally at the narrow end of a larger basil leaf. Top the cheese with preferred ingredient options, then roll the basil around the cheese and secure with a toothpick.
Let’s Eat!
-
Serve on your favorite party tray.
Recipe Notes
These are my favorite preparations but get creative and combine whatever flavors you love!
Local fruit jam + Pecans
Sun-dried tomatoes + Balsamic glaze
Local Michigan honey + Pistachios
Tips for Success
Cut the cheese while it is still chilled from the refrigerator, which makes it easier to slice. Let soften slightly in basil wraps before serving.
